Truck Window Tinting: Tips and Best Practices

Truck window tinting offers practical and aesthetic benefits. Tinted windows keep your vehicle cool and comfortable in hot weather, but they also enhance visual appeal. Along with finding a highly skilled shop to install tints, the following tips ensure that you can enjoy your tinted windows for years to come.

State Laws Dictate the Type of Tint You Can Have

In New Mexico, only non-reflective tint is allowed on vehicles. This non-reflective tint can only appear on the top portion of the windshield, but it can completely cover the side and rear windows. However, tinted windows must have a measurable light transmission rate of no less than 20% or the driver may be subject to a fine.

There Are Several Types of Window Tint Available

Auto window tints come in several materials, including:

  • Carbon
  • Ceramic
  • Metallic
  • Hybrid
  • Dyed

Each material offers benefits and drawbacks, so it’s important to discuss the choice with your window tinting professional thoroughly. For instance, carbon and ceramic tints are high-performing but costlier, while dyed tints are very affordable but don’t offer the same longevity and durability.

Proper Care and Maintenance Will Keep Tint Intact

Your technician will provide instructions to keep your new tinted windows looking amazing. For instance, you’ll need to leave the truck’s windows rolled up for two to four days after the installation to ensure the film has fully cured. Additionally, it’s recommended that you hold off on cleaning the windows for a week or so. When the time comes for cleaning, windows can be washed with a gentle soap and microfiber cloth to avoid damaging the film.
